2004 Cold Heaven Syrah - Second Sin-Santa Barbara County
Description: This is Cold Heaven’s Rhone red and the future of Syrah in California. It has been said when you don’t follow fashion and remain true to the subject, then you create something timeless. I believe this wine embodies these words. This is a syrah with elegance, finesse, and a bit of youth to create something with longevity. This is a blend of three separate vineyards: Vogelzang Vineyard, La Purisima Mountain Vineyard and the long-standing Bien Nacido Vineyard. Each lot was vinified separately until the first racking, after which, the Purisima and Vogelzang Vineyards were blended. The Bien Nacido “x-block”, (sexy name don’t you think?) was added later. The emphasis of the wine is balanced fruit, balanced alcohol, and balanced acidity. This wine has notes of violets and black fruits, tea and tobacco, and shows great potential for aging. Succulent now but not as busty as most other ubiquitous California Syrahs.
